Sienna Martz creates wall-based sculpture and installation through alternative material manipulation and textile techniques. Padded bands, branching forms and repeated organic units give the work an animated physical presence, as though soft structures were spreading across or emerging from the architecture around them.

Touch remains central even when the work cannot be handled. Rounded surfaces and compressed fibres carry associations of protection, bodily connection and growth. The compositions are carefully planned yet responsive to the behaviour of their materials, balancing systematic repetition with intuitive adjustment.

Care in Martz’s work is both subject and method. It appears in the labour of construction, the attention given to discarded material and the refusal to separate environmental choices from ethical ones. The result is neither illustration nor instruction, but a tactile proposition about how forms, resources and living systems depend upon one another.

Sustainability and practice

Martz works with second-hand clothing, reclaimed textiles and plant-based fibres, avoiding animal-derived materials as part of a wider vegan practice. Components are chosen not only for lower-impact potential but for the expressive differences between used cloth, bamboo, kapok and other soft matter.

Non-solvent adhesives, responsibly considered supports and low-toxicity finishes form part of the construction process. The practice connects material recovery with slow handwork and public advocacy, while retaining the necessary distinction between better choices and an impact-free object. Sustainability is approached as an evolving ethical discipline rather than a finished credential.
